Day 1: Cave Secrets and Heavenly Horses Day 2: Jewel of the Silk Road – Ancient Merv
The Seyitjemaliddin Mosque is a 15th-century monument that was irreparably destroyed during the 1948 earthquake in Ashgabat. It is not only a symbol of Turkmenistan's eastern architecture but also the best testimony to the catastrophe that claimed over 100,000 lives in the mid-20th century. Fortunately, archaeologists photographed and studied this unusual monument at the beginning of the 20th century, and today a model of the mosque and fragments of the original mosaic from its façade can be seen in the State Museum of Turkmenistan.
